Celtics take Jaylen Brown amid fury of trade rumors with Bulls, 76ers

Despite some intense rumors of potential deals with the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers, the Celtics went ahead and drafted Cal forward Jaylen Brown.

We thought Boston would select Kris Dunn and then move him to either Chicago or Philly.

But those rumors appear to be nothing but smoke. Wyc Grousbeck says Brown is their guy. Here’s the scouting report.

Sigh. More to come…

Somehow I’m not nearly as excited especially seeing Bender going 4th. I mean sure he could be Darko 2.0 but I’d willing to take the chance. Draft is the place to risk. Right now I’m more on Butler trade than I was. Let’s hope I wrong about Brown (if he stays).

    Traitor Dan!

    • Curt Hays

I mean, what’s he gonna do, take Jae’s spot?

      • jq0216

in the second unit, yes. he should be good for about 10-15m his first year, maybe a little more.

        • Astarot

You’re optimistic so I hope you’re right. He seems like quite NBA ready (not imposing measures tough for him SG/SF player). His shoot is a problem from what I’ve heard.

  • adam

I like this choice. I was looking at him a month ago saying I hope we get this guy.

  • BigHog

We just drafted a bully. Another guy who cant shoot. But this MAN gets to the rack.

  • Frank Aziza

Felger is right, Ainge is overrated at draft picking.

    • Astarot

You’re right. He’s good at a lot of things as a GM and making a lot of good decisions but draft is the weakest of all his GM abilities. I can only speculate what’s the reason for that and now it’s not the time but something has to change in terms of draft process. Tough I hate to agree with this clown Felger, in fact I refuse to do that so let’s just say I agree with you.

Felger… He could give two shitzus about the Celtics. He seems to seethe with some kind of constipated contempt even to have to report on the green. His opinion means squatto.

Ok Thon Maker just went to the Bucks with 10th. Bucks taking chances again and I quite like it. It pan out with Greek Freak so why not. I was hoping Cs could take him with those latter 1st rounder well….

I wish we had chosen a shooter. This guy is supposed to be one of the best athletes and brightest guys in the draft . A chess prodigy for whatever that is worth. We won`t know whether he`s a good choice or not until we see what happens later in the draft and until we see him play. I like Crowder, but he`s a bench player on a championship caliber team , imo. We needed a slashing wing in any case.

Why in the world did they not take Noel? A guy who was supposed to go nr.1 even WITH a torn acl 3 years ago?
This is an opportunity we missed out on and i think we will regret it for a long time even if Brown turns into a nice player.

    • forever_green

I like Noel also, who knows why not?

      • RedsLoveChild

Because Ainge is an idiot, a “category 5 disaster”, that`s why.

Even worse, Wyc has a serious “man crush” on Ainge so we`re stuck with DA until he dies.

        • BamaCeltic

ESPN sources say Philadelphia is offering Nerlens Noel, No. 24 and No. 26 in tonight’s draft and Robert Covington for Boston’s No. 3 pick~ Mark Stein
Why would DA not do this ?????????

          • RedsLoveChild

If it were Noel alone being offered it still is better than drafting a 6`7″ guy who is being described as a “project”.

Again, DA will always fumble the ball just as he`s about to get into the end zone! It never fails to happen.

I like Jaylen, but wouldve preferred buddy hield. Jaylen looks like a better dribbler than Jeff Green, but seems to have the same woes Jeff did with pacing and timing around the game. Also not as good a shooter but can attack better than Jeff. We better make some moves for KD or Paul George, or something…We need a freaking closer!
