Your Morning Dump… Where we connect the dots to trade No. 3 for DeMarcus Cousins

demarcus_cousins

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big story line. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Can I interest you in a trade for DeMarcus Cousins? There might be a way.

As Chuck posted yesterday, Chris Mannix of The Vertical said in an interview that the Celtics will find a way to make a big trade for the likes of Cousins, Jimmy Butler or Paul George. That’s encouraging for Celtics fans – and even more so in light of two interesting reports about possible personnel moves by the Sacramento Kings.

The first report was from ESPN’s Zach Lowe in his lottery night recap:

“The latest scuttlebutt is that the Kings are prepared to cut bait with Rajon Rondo if the bidding for him gets beyond a certain threshold that is lower than we might imagine, given the Kings’ recent transaction history.”

Perhaps the Kings are interested in replacing Rondo with Kris Dunn. Coincidentally, according to Adrian Wojnarowski – Woj, the NBA reporter legendary for his scoops – Dunn prefers to be drafted by a team that needs a point guard, and not guard-rich franchises such as Boston at No. 3 or Phoenix at No. 4. Here’s the video of Woj’s remarks in a conversation with Mannix:

The second interesting report was from Chad Ford of ESPN, who said:

“Kings GM Vlade Divac is absolutely in love with Buddy Hield.”

If all this is true, the Kings need help, because Dunn and Hield are both expected to be gone before Sacramento picks at No. 8. Vlade would have to trade up to ensure that he gets one of his preferred players.

All these elements together could create the path for Danny Ainge to trade for Cousins. If Divac is considering restructuring his roster, perhaps Danny could entice the Kings to part with their all-star center for the No. 3 pick and some other assets in the Celtics’ treasure chest. That assumes the Celtics actually want to go after the volatile Cousins.

Granted, a lot of pieces have to fall into place for such a trade to happen. Regardless, the No. 3 pick is suddenly looking a little better than it did on lottery night.

On Page 2: Summer league already?

The NBA announced yesterday that the Celtics will participate in two summer leagues this July. The first will include four teams hosted in Salt Lake City by the Utah Jazz. The Cs schedule will be:

Monday, July 4: vs. Philadelphia 76ers
Tuesday, July 5: vs. Utah Jazz
Thursday, July 7: vs. San Antonio Spurs

The second will see 24 teams convene in Las Vegas from July 8 to 18. The schedule will be announced at a later date.

NOPE! Don’t want him at all . Cousins is the poster child of the bonehead pro athlete that just doesn’t get it. He will be a cancer to the coach and locker room wherever he is. He doesn’t belong in the green and white. You cant look past character and look at stats all the time. Dude is a head case. No thanks !!

  • Finks

I want PG or KD as much as the next guy, but us getting such well rounded people, let alone superstars seems like a dream. Brad has been our horse whisperer. A player like Smart under any other coach would have been an absolute train wreck I belief. This is why I think if there will be any fireworks, Boogie feels like a fit. Issue then is, who in the NBA would be stoked about being the 3rd All Star on our roster? (IT beings the 2nd)

  • Sean

#3 pick, another first, plus Jae doesn’t seem too steep for anyone else? Give them whatever picks/players they want except Jae/IT

  • zippittyay

    Pass the chemo.

  • RedsLoveChild

    Don`t even think it!

Trading for Cousins is the same as trading for Cancer. Leopards can`t change their spots, and Stevens will NOT be able to tame him. Nobody can, nobody ever will.

Dunn is extraordinarily overrated…plus, way too fragile to succeed in the NBA.
    Dunn is a bust.

    • Curt Hays

Someone from this draft class will be an All-Star. Who will it be?

      • RedsLoveChild

If I`m Ainge, getting the #3 pick would please me.

Ingram-Simmons will be gone, so there`s no pressure to gamble wildly on a highly speculative teenager. In a trade, neither one will fetch you an established superstar.

Sit back and draft Buddy Hield…he`s a keeper!

BH is a mature 22 year old college senior…he demonstrated great desire/dedication in improving his game over the past year…he brings no negative baggage…he has an indisputable highly valued shooting skill…he`s already pretty much the 2nd best long range bomber in America today behind Curry…the hoops are the exact same size in college and pro…it`s not unreasonable to foresee him as being better than D-Wade ever was!

Then, you address the paint. Trade Marcus Smart as part of a package…draft picks, Sully, Kelly, etc.

This won`t produce a banner in 2017…but it will accelerate the process, with lots of FA $$$ to spend.

        • Curt Hays

I’ve been arguing for Buddy too, but John doesn’t think he’s worth it.

Not sure it’s worth getting rid of Kelly. The team succeeded with him on the floor even if he wasn’t the one hitting the shots. His presence really does make the team better. I’m thinking that it’s wise to keep him as long as he’s on his rookie contract. As soon as you make him available, Dallas will scoop him up so that Carlisle can mold him into Dirk’s replacement. If only we had a shooting coach to help the team shoot the way Brad thinks they do.

          • RedsLoveChild

            John`s wrong.

Only if `76`ers offer Okafor for the 3rd pick {Buddy}. There`s a 75% chance I`d do the trade, but not 100% certain right now.

Nothing personal against Kelly but, you can`t fix “dead” legs. No explosiveness whatsoever.

          • Curt Hays

You hear that, John?!?! I agree with RLC! GO GET BUDDY and/or OKAFOR.

          • RedsLoveChild

            Right on, CH!
Buddy or Okafor….or Ainge finally gets his ass fired!!

    • Rick Rice

That’s absurd, if you can get the best center in the league you do it!

  • Wootay

Iam sure Danny would do his research and talk to people and Cousins himself before any move is made. Is anyone fine with drafting Bender? I mean yes if you can bring in a all star why not do it. I think Bender is a good fit with this team and why not bring back the same team. If the C’s dont get KD this year. Next years free agency is not that bad . Westbrook,Hayward,Griffin are open next year with a bigger cap space. We all know Ainge and Stevens would love to have Hayward in Boston.

  • Roy Sanchez

Living part time in Sac I can say definitively that Vlade would be thrown out of town if he trades Boogie. With the new arena opening up this fall, no way he trades away their superstar. At least not now

  • stephen

Everyone saying not to trade for cousins……….are guys retarded? Serious question……..he is a superstar who hasnt been in a winning situation since he has been in the nba. Its not his fault, its management. The have made meaningless trades and stupid picks. If you remember zach Randolf was the same way an matured when he started winning and he would win here. He is a fierce competiter and hates to lose. Boston or Memphis is a perfect place for him. Memphis so long as they keep Randolf. We get cousins and i bet everything i have that we make the ecf so long as we keep Jae an IT.
