Recap: Sloppy and lazy 2nd half costs C’s victory over Wiz

Damn, this team is a tease. The Celtics raced out to another fast start (30-14 1st quarter) only to gradually fall apart over the final 3 quarters.

Once the Wizards ramped up their defense in the 2nd half, the Celtics wilted. They got sloppy and lazy. I believe 9 of their 12 TOs came in the 2nd half.

This was a very winnable game for Boston. Instead, they were served a 106-99 loss.

Green:

How about Avery Bradley’s scoring binge in the 4th quarter? 13 of his 26 came in the final 12 minutes. He scored 10 straight points during a stretch that allowed the Celtics to briefly stretch their lead.

Jared Sullinger (22 points, 11 rebounds) was a steady force. He was outplaying some bigger guys (Gortat, Nene). He carried the team in the 1st quarter (10 points) and single-handedly staved off a Washington run with 8 consecutive points early in the 3rd quarter.

Phil Pressey had 5 assists in 14 minutes. He helped get the offense back on track during a couple of stretches in the 2nd and 4th quarters.

Gross:

The defense on Trevor Ariza (27 points, 5-8 3FG, 8 rebounds) was ~~awful~~ non-existent.

Stevèns shoulda stayed with the bench a lil longer in the fourth and I think they win. He doesn’t play vitor enough minutes he didnt do anything great today but it seems like good things happen when he’s on the floor.

  I agree. Vitor does well with one on one defense (help defense not so much) and he would’ve been a big help against Gortat.

    Ya I don’t like how Stevens gives him such a short leash it seems one mistake and he’s done. If he got into the flow of the game for 25 minutes I think he’d be a double double guy with 2 or 3 blocks.

As much as I like jeff green he needs to play with more effort but I blame Stevens for some of it cause if jeff ain’t involved offensively it seems he gets mad and don’t try hard. They stopped putting him in the post and it seems the only time he gets shots s to bail out a 24 sec violation. But I was disappointed in his effort tonight he was really pissing me off and I’m one of his supporters.

If green had the motor that Wallace does he would have 5 offensive rebounds a game and be one of the better players in the league.

jeff is a guy that should be geting up at least 20 shots any given night, he still seems to struggle in some games or lets things from previous games carry over and make him frustrating to watch for a few games in a row. this is a team so i feel everyone is too blame for any lose but, even when we lose especially this year there are always positives to build on for the future. how many times last year with doc did the team score 30 in the first quarter for the whole season, i wouldnt be surprised if we are already about to eclipse that mark for this year. stevens is a great coach, but he is a new coach there will be growing pains, he will learn what he did wrong and how to go about telling the players what they did wrong and how they can all fix their mistakes. Can you just imagine once stevens has had lets say a good 3 years under his belt and with his system of actual team basketball, if they kept that consistency of scoring, playing tough team defense, and agressiveness throughout all four quarters we are looking at a team that could average 120 pts for the season, sure it might not be that but i think we could with all the right pieces in place i think that will be a very possible goal we could acheive. still undefeated in moral victories thanks to having bradley playing at the level we all knew he could and sully continuing to beast his way out there. once rondo comes back we will finish the season 82-0 in moral victories i dont care if thats not a real thing but it is something to be happy about whenever our season finishes this year.

  Rondo will make a huge difference. The one thing we need most is a penetrator and guy who can finish t the rim and that’s one of rondos specialties.

    exactly, cant wait to see him get back for that reason, he averages like idk 14 pts or something like that i think just off the top of my head thats a big difference in alot of our close games if we had an extra even ten pts from someone
