Celtics finally sign Jordan Mickey

Bobby Marks says the Celtics had cap room for Mickey because the Crowder deal and David Lee trade have not been finalized. Boston is also carrying 16 guaranteed contracts at the moment. That number needs to be reduced by one by the start of the season.

Hopefully he will turn into a Brandon Wright type player with more range. 7/8 man off the bench in a year or two. Like him a lot.

    • Curt Hays

Nah, hopefully he turns into someone that 15 years from now people are hoping they are Jordan Mickey type players.

      • Adam Stark

So are you saying he will definitely be the next Dr. J?

        • Curt Hays

I’m saying that he’s definitely Jordan.

      • Andre

Like a Ben Wallace type without the attitude or you thinking even bigger than that?

        • Curt Hays

I’m just saying what I hope. I have no expectations.

          • Andre

I hope that for all our young bucks, I just hope they do so in Green.

        • RedsLoveChild

          That`s a good “potential analogy”.

Wallace and Mickey are nearly identical in size, with shot blocking/rebounding skills

  • Andre

I’m glad we’re keeping Mickey, but who gets dealt in a two for 1 or three for 1?

    • Adam Stark

Young, sully and our 2016 pick for Embiid? Though I very much doubt 6ers would do that.

      • Andre

With Embiid breaking the same foot bone that he previously did, I’d stay away from that with a 30′ pole.

        • stephen

how about both? wish they would take both and bradely for noel

          • Andre

I keep having trouble with whether my dislike for AB is warranted or not, but I wouldn’t want to see both Olynyk and Sully go for Noel. We will be even more stagnant on offense… based on PER and PPG I think Sully would be better to keep.

          • stephen

but we need a defensive big, i would do that deal in a heart beat but i dont think dinkie is that stupid plus we still have lee for the Short term and amir. But dont get me wrong, i love AB, he is a huge piece for a contender but we have a glutten of guards and we badly need a defensive center like noel.

        • Sean McLaughlin

          Amen to both points!

  • Curt Hays

    Better headline:

    CELTICS SIGN JORDAN!!!

  • Lee in Oregon

As far as who goes, it doesn’t have to be a 2 for 1. It could easily be a single guy for a draft pick. I’d say the most likely big to go would be PJ3. I would think they’d want to see Sully’s “new body” before letting him go in a deal.

    • Andre

Think most rather see a 2fer than another draft pick. Imagine the 2017 draft, on the clock the Boston Celtics and up next the Boston Celtics and after that more Celtics…

thank sweet baby jesus! I really like what Mickey has the potential to bring to this team.

in regard to who gets moved, I agree that PJ3 is likely the most at risk. I admit this comes with limited knowledge of him as a player, but I’m pretty sure PJ3 was just meant to be a high flier. Micky does the things we would have wanted Jones to do.

I think Turner is another likely candidate. He’s rough around the edges, but I think last season did a lot to build his stock. I’d actually bemoan this trade a bit. I think turner could be a stud for us off the bench.
