Rajon Rondo has a fractured face

Remember the play where Rajon Rondo was kneed in the face by teammate Richard Jefferson? Turns out he fractured his left orbital bone and nose:

Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo has an orbital fracture in his left eye as well as a nasal fracture and will miss at least three games, the Mavericks announced Monday.

Rondo suffered the injury Saturday against Orlando and was evaluated Sunday by the Mavericks’ medical staff. He will not play against Minnesota on Monday, nor will he travel to Golden State and Sacramento later this week.

“It was a really bad collision,” Mavericks center Tyson Chandler said of the shot Rondo took to the head just 98 seconds into Saturday’s game. “I don’t know what the prognosis is, but he is pretty beat-up.”

With blood pouring out of his nose, Rondo stayed down on the court for about a minute before being escorted to the locker room by the Mavs’ athletic training staff.

Check out the ball boy’s expression. Not sure if he’s feeling sad for Rondo or himself because he has to mop up a pool of blood.

Jason Terry missed 14 days for this while playing for Dallas. Everyone went nuts over how quickly he bounced back. As much as they now hate Rondo here for not winning the World Series for the Texas Rangers within hours upon arrival, a lot of people think this improves the Mavs.

When Rondo misses 2 games for this and returns…they’ll start to appreciate how BA he is.

  Like how we went on that 7 game winning streak when he went down. Most people thought we be better without him but I knew come playoff time he be sorely missed. They definitely missed him during the playoffs as we got murked by the Knicks.
  
  I still think we should have stacked up on some more depth and try another go at it. After trading up in the draft, drafting the Greek Freak would have made Uncle Jeff more expendable. Possibly could have pulled off some sign and trades for Mozgov and Ellis who were free agents that year. Sign Livingston and another guard and we would have been right back at it.

  Curt, BA plays much better in football than in hoops. When RR returns after missing 2 games, he will still have these BA qualities related to skills:
  – FG % = 40%
  – FT % = 31% (this # is truly remarkable and historically BA)
  – as a PG, better rebounding skills than shooting skills
  – poor mover of the ball; in the half court, loves to pound it on the floor and not pass
  
  RR is now being sat in crunch time in Dallas. Now thats BA!! Is RR an average PG? Sure, I’ll give you that. Hey, he is better than what the Mavs had but in the playoffs, Westbrook and Paul will eat his lunch all day.

      the last 2 yrs, Playoff Paul averages 8 assists per game and 21 pts per game. Rondo’s career playoff stats are 9 assists per game and 14 pts per game. And remember, Playoff Rondo was last seen in the playoffs in ’11-’12 season (3 yrs ago at the peak of his game). Rondo’s play in EVERY phase of the game is way down from ’11-’12. So Playoff Rondo in ’15 will be a shell of his former self (why do you think Danny traded him for bag of balls?!) and Playoff Paul will prove my point. And if Rondo faces Westbrook, that will NOT be pretty.
