Looks like Jeff Green is feeling right at home with the Memphis Grizzlies. Green scored 21 points off the bench in Memphis’ win over the Magic last night, including this nasty flush on Victor Oladipo. Oladipo tried to draw a charge, but instead ended up on the receiving end of one of Green’s patented slams.

Enough of Jeff Green, man. He’s gone and is never coming back. Every time I read or hear the words “Jeff Green”, it does nothing but remind many Celtics fans like myself of the worst Celtics trade of the century which sacrificed banner 18 in the process. The pain is still very much there for me, at least. A great talent, but mentally weak.

We like to remember the recent good times as Celtics fans.

Because in reality, we had one amazing championship season that was arguably followed by several tragic seasons after the fact. KG’s knee in Utah, tragic. “The Perk Game 7”, misery. The trade, and the blowout loss to Miami at home in game 6 up 3-2….and the list goes on. They were great years though and we had a lot of fun. Remember the good times Celtics fans, not Jeff Green.

Let’s not get carried away with Jeff Green news. We all know he is capable of great moments. But to do it night in and night out- no way. Good riddance. Agree with Dirk Diggler. Without question, Danny Ainge’s worst move as Celtics GM. The trade was so horrific that the key player in the Perkins deal just got shipped out: Danny’s ultimate admittance to a terrible faux pas.

  What a load of crock. OKC fans probably think *they* got the worse end of that deal. I loved having Perk, but did he bring the Thunder a ring? We had an overabundance of centers at that time (4) and we needed a small forward and we got a good one. Did he turn out to be everything he could have? Probably not. 4 years after the Perkins trade and we STILL got assets for him. What do you think OKC is gonna get for Perk? It was a tough decision and tough decisions have to be made by somebody. Danny has made a lot of good decisions. I think he has made worse ones than that one.

    You must have been spending a lot of time on Mars ’cause after that trade, it was all down hill. KG and Perkins had great chemistry and the C’s went from title favorite to just another team after that overabundance of centers got hurt and old. The C’s have had no center since that deal sir. And the guy they got in the trade has now been dealt ’cause franklly he just isn’t/wasn’t good enough. So wake up and pay attention once in a while.

        You would’ve swore Danny traded Perk Game 6 of the 2010 finals. Anyone who watched Perk after that year and every year since would trade Green for Perk 10 times out 10. Chemistry doesnt stop a small ball Heat team from destroying us. But These guys are right, Perk hanging out around the perimeter would have brought home #18. Good going Danny.

    Nope. That Celtics team was the best team in basketball BY FAR up until the trade that year. That team with Rondo, Allen, Pierce, KG, and Perk starting did not lose a postseason series when fully healthy. In the title defense year, we lost because of that fateful night in Utah to KG. The year after that, Perk himself missed the most important game of the season and we were out-rebounded by about 2 million boards as we watched LA get gifted a lucky title.
    
    The plan all along should have been to win banner 18 that season and allow Perkins to walk if he demanded too much money. Trading Perk absolutely destroyed the chemistry and the interior toughness of the team. And when Shaq ruptured his Achilles, the “BIGS” we had left weren’t so big. Nenad Kristic? Steems? Are you kidding me? The reason that team was so good was because of it’s depth and size up front. One trade and one injury later……………..
    
    Danny gambled and he lost. We lost. It’s time we all call that trade for what it was. A ballsy move that had hope, but subsequently fell flat on its face when we couldn’t rely on a 38 year old Shaq (although I’ll always love you Shaq) with a busted tendon.
    
    I still am a fan of Danny as GM collectively, but come on, the Green trade sucked. Admit it.

      Hey, the Lakers never lost with a healthy starting lineup back then either. We were a victory away from the Finals in 2012.

        Na, the Celts whooped ’em fair and square, even though that LAL roster was stacked.

        Is that how you’ve softened the blow of getting slammed out of our own building in a close out game 6? Championship level teams don’t exactly give LeBron and company a chance to go back home and win game 7 by 23 points. I also fail to see how the Celtics getting their doors blown off in games 6 and 7 is something to brag about, nor how it justifies Danny gambling away #BANNER18.

        So, i guess ‘championship teams’ also don’t blow 13 point late 3rd quarter leads in game 7s of the NBA finals even if their cornerstone starting center isn’t playing…..

        Don’t revise history. Rasheed fouled out in a bogus fashion and LAL attempted 20 more free throws and made 10 more free throws than the Celtics that game.
        
        The Celtics outplayed that team in game 7.
        
        Celtics FG % – 40.8%
        Lakers FG % – 32.5 %
        
        Celtics 3PM-A – 6-16
        Lakers 3PM-A – 4-20
        
        Celtics FTM-A – 15-17
        Lakers FTM-A – 25-37
        
        The difference was free throws and LAL compiling 23 offensive rebounds as opposed to Boston’s 8 offensive boards. We lost in the paint and on the glass. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that had NOTHING to do with losing Perkins the previous game.

        No question that no Perkins was thee difference. A title lost. A tainted title for the Fakers. But the very next year Perkins heals, things are rolling, and Danny….well, you know the rest.

        And the year before was another lucky/gifted title for the Lakers thanks to KG’s knee buckling in Utah. This Celtics team coulda’, shoulda’, and woulda’ won three or four titles if not for horribly timed injuries and the Perkins trade. It still burns me to my core knowing that.

        Yeah. You always say to yourself that injuries are part of the game. But it still gets to you knowing what could have been. But that trade did not have to happen four years ago and I certainly am as critical of Danny and that deal now as I was then. And I like Danny too, but please do not let something like that happen again. I hope Danny gets the message if he hasn’t already.

      Well said and a defining moment in Celtics history, unfortunately, a gigantic negative. I don’t recall Red making a similar gaffe, although he would refuse to meet salary demands of players like Paul Silas in the off-season – not in the middle of one.

Geezez people no need to get butthurt its just a video. We can still root for Jeff even if hes not on the Celtics. You don’t have to cheer for him if you don’t want to, but don’t ridicule those who are pulling for him in Memphis. Just chillax.

Its pathetic how some of you still call the Green trade a bad one. Perk has never been what he was before that trade. And news flash, Perk was not the key to winning a championship that season. Rondo dislocated his elbow, PP and RA were worn out by the Heat series. The Heat went small and tore us apart but your right having Perk with one knee plodding around the perimeter would’ve GUARANTEED us the chip that year. Celtics fans love for Perk is sickening.
