Teams interested in Marcus Thornton, not interested in his salary

The Celtics are getting a lot of interest in guard Marcus Thornton, but teams are concerned about his $8.6 million salary, a source said.

We knew Thornton’s bloated salary was going to be a problem. Just be happy that he’s playing well enough for teams to have interest.

I’ll be honest, he’s a much better player than I anticipated. He has a decent handle and can get to the rim.

  He actually got that contract from Sacramento but yea they got him for Terry and Reggie Evans so not bad.

      Still, you’re right as far as the Nets are concerned. They just keep messing things up -Dwill, GWallace, the picks for KG and Pierce. I so badly hope they fall apart for our 2016 pick to become really really good- like top ten would be awesome.

The one thing’s for certain getting rid of Thornton and Wallace (the toughest case) gonna be crucial for salary cap situation. The other moves Ainge’s been doing OK he’s working but let’s be honest those two off the books would give them some major cap room. So I’m waiting for something important to happen eventually.

  i dont think theres alot of benefit to get rid of wallace, he can be very useful to facilitate trades soon. The are limited free agent targets. So most talent you can get is through trades and his 10m contract will be pretty good to for that

    I thought about it that way but I have a feeling that trades for big names would be equally hard to make (circumstances can change tough) and in Wallace case right now only his 10m contract is a asset and Cs don’t have many good players to offer in return (Sully and Olynyk they value them higher than the rest of the NBA). There’s gotta be some different landscape and some help from basketball Gods for something meaningful to happen (like Love, Gasol or Durant willing to sign somewhere else).

  Wallace is very unlikely to get traded at any time during his tenure. See the Richard Jefferson to Utah trade. Danny’s not going to give up an asset to rid himself of Wallace. He’ll come off the books next year and give us more flexibility. Danny’s not looking to spend any money now anyways.
