Report: Brandan Wright told he’ll be traded

4. Brandan Wright is available. Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge has informed the 6-10 center that he’s on the block and should expect to be on another team. That’s why Wright had a head-scratching DNP this week on a team that could use his skill set. The Wizards would have to execute a trade to bring him on board and he has an expiring contract that pays $5 million. Given Boston’s point-guard situation — traded Rajon Rondo and now Marcus Smart is learning the job and Evan Turner isn’t a natural at distributing — they believe that Wright doesn’t fit despite 72.4% field-goal shooting. Wright running the floor with John Wall or in the half-court with Andre Miller? Still not likely, but it would make for a fantastic highlight reel. A big who can step out to slow down the pick-and-roll like Wright’s old teammate, Tyson Chandler of the Mavericks, and recover to shade the rim is invaluable. The Wizards would have to match salary but players of this caliber aren’t expected to be available because the demand far outweighs the supply.

For those wondering how CSN Washington would get the scoop on what’s going on with Brandan Wright… his agent, James Tanner, is Washington-based and probably has established relationships with the media there.

This falls under the umbrella of the Celtics being in a weird spot. Brandan Wright is a guy that seems like he could help. He’s got length and athleticism and he’s 27 years old. But he’s also a free agent who won’t likely choose a rebuilding situation… and the Celtics aren’t exactly a team that is ready to enter a bidding war for a guy who’ll be at least 30 when they’re ready to contend. Wright will command some decent money because that’s what bigs with his skills at his age get.

So the Celtics will look to move him, and the question just becomes how. His $5 million is one of those deals that can go on its own or be paired with Jeff Green’s $9.2 million to bring back a big expiring contract and picks/prospects.

I will say this.. If the Celtics are holding Wright out of games now, then this must be closer to happening than we think.

Trading Wright with Green and a few draft picks for a serious 7ft rim protector would be in Boston’s best interest. I’m sure Ainge knows that. Wonder who they could get. Or they could wait to see if they can trade up for Okerfor in the draft. This would free up minutes for other players. Celtics need to trade two players for one and give Tim Frazier a ten day contract to see how he does in the NBA. He is a hidden gem. Trade away Bass and Nelson. Trade Wallace this summer.

  Theres not a single team giving up anything of value for either Green or Wright, let alone the combination of the two. If you want headcase Sanders hes likely available if we throw in a pick.

    I think Ainge is better than average in what he does. One weakness, however, is not getting Stevens to give lots of minutes to the players he is considering trading. In this way their performance might change his mind or increase the offers other teams make. Ainge haters don’t seem to understand that most teams don’t want to give you what you want without stealing from you! I also think getting more draft picks is now becoming stupid, especially from good teams.

      Might be a better idea not to play Wright too much… If he’s a product of the Mavs situation, I’d keep him out of the line up so teams don’t see any issues with his game if they come out.

At this point, with how they are playing, one of the only things I am really really looking forward to each day, is what trades we can pull off and start seeing this “blob” of a team start morphing into something more concrete.

I also am looking forward to when we get a solid rotation of our young guys and start seeing them develop with extra minutes.

Anyway we get Otto Porter if we ship Green to Washington? He’s 21 and could end up very good.

  Funny you mention him. I was talking to my roommate about how pissed sitting James Young makes me and he used Otto Porter as an example. He was a high draft pick that the Wiz barely used while he was a rookie despite his talent. Apparently they released info after the season about how he wasn’t fitting in well in practices and had to get his attitude in line and thats why he wasn’t playing much. Perhaps its similar for Young?

    Green and Wright would be perfect for the Wizards. They’re going for a championship this year with older guys like Pierce and Butler.
    Porter would be a nice fit for us. We can see what Smart, Young and Porter develop into.
    Smart , Young, Porter, Zeller and Sully. It’s a very young starting five.
