Your Morning Dump…Where James Young looks ready for some NBA minutes

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.

Another big shooting night for Young last night, with five made threes and 27 points overall. One interesting thing watching all these recent two-minute highlight reels is that Young appears to get his shot off quicker than before. Maybe it’s something he’s consciously working on, or something I’ve overlooked until recently, but in almost every game reel, he manages to get fouled on a three-point play — and gets the bucket to drop as well. His release looks so smooth that it’s hard to imagine it not going in as he follows through, and he’s tall enough to get the shots up over defenders as they close out. Yes, NBA-level close outs are going to be quicker and more difficult to overcome, but Young has the tools to score at this level even when well guarded. He doesn’t handle the ball too much, as he’s either catching-and-shooting or passing without putting it on the floor for too long, and perhaps that’s an area keeping him out of the Celtics’ rotation. I say that because even though he’s a shooting guard, we’ll probably need another guard who can handle the ball until Marcus Smart becomes more comfortable bringing the ball up under pressure.

Hopefully the consistent scoring will force Stevens to at least try giving Young his first dose of steady NBA minutes. His defense is likely still be sub-par as well, and with the Celtics’ defense steadily improving, Stevens may not want to tweak that. Still we’re losing a lot of games, and there’s a growing argument to be made to #freejamesyoung (sorry).

I guess with big night/big game Rondo gone, the league doesn’t have much use for us. Can’t really argue with the decision.

And last, the sports world loses Stuart Scott to cancer

Rest in peace Stuart Scott.

I think young has always had the quick release, I recall comparing him to Mike Redd bc he’s both lefty and a quick release guy

    • RedwasKing

Agreed. Michael Redd is a great comparison. I have no idea why this guy hasn’t seen the court much yet. He seems like he can contribute a lot more on offense than Smart can right now. If only we could somehow morph them into one complete player.

I just noticed it the other day watching highlights…. He gets rid of that sucker quick and he only needs an inch. Put him in, let him fly.

i hope young develops an inside game too. All jumpers for him right now, I think C’s need a better development coach or something. Marcus been taking too many jumpers rather than going to the paint

BSTEVENS, are you listening???? You have nothing to lose. Cut loose Young with a minimum of 20 mins per game. And play Kelly O at least 40 mins per game. We want to see these guys play and develop.
