Report: Celtics willing to trade Rajon Rondo

Chuck - Red's Army December 17, 2014 Rajon Rondo, Rumors 17 Comments

RR

Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc Spears dropped this bomb this afternoon:

The Boston Celtics are exhibiting a renewed willingness to pursue trade packages that include point guard Rajon Rondo, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

As much as ever in his nine seasons in Boston, the Celtics have left strong impressions with rival organizations that they’re prepared to make a deal that includes Rondo, sources said. Boston has been engaged in discussions described as “serious” in recent days, but no trade agreement is imminent.

Boston’s asking price for Rondo remains “pretty high, probably higher than most want to pay,” one league official told Yahoo.

Trade talks with Rondo have been focused more in the Western Conference than Eastern, sources said.

Boston has been consistently shopping forward Jeff Green, trying to acquire a package that includes a first-round draft pick, sources said. Rondo being available would suggest Celtics general manager Danny Ainge is prepared to undergo a deeper rebuilding project and push harder for the highest possible draft position in the 2015 NBA draft.

We’ve been down this road before, but as someone who’d like Rajon Rondo to remain in Boston, I feel like this story carries a different tone. There seems to be some legit traction on trade talks involving Rondo.

But… any story that doesn’t specify teams or players shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

In related news, you should check out New Republic’s expose on Wojnar0wski. It offers fascinating insight into his career. He’s made a lot of enemies and the reporter lists Ainge as one of Woj’s favorite targets.

No surprise really… Ainge wouldn’t be doing his job if he wasn’t seeing what he could get for Rondo before his contract is up

This may be true KGino & it does go along with Danny’s track record..but I don’t have to like it..especially if he’s making the calls.

  • Sean McLaughlin

I’ll believe it when he’s on the news holding up another team’s jersey. Heard all this before!

The funniest thing i’ve seen a fan say so far is “its a done deal, when has Woj been wrong?”.

  • eddysamson

I still think Jrue + a 1st is the best package I’ve heard of and the best offer we will get. I’m on the fence for trading him but if we did I’d want it to be this deal.

    • Rick Rice

If that’s the best offer then Rondo should be staying for a long long time!

      • eddysamson

Mmmm how’s Jrue looking right now compared to Branden Wright?

    • zippittyay

      Sold!

  • Rick Rice

Dropped this bomb? Wow! Hard to imagine someone is actually getting paid to write this recycled Rondo Trade Rumor’s crap! Name some names and then maybe you have a bomb to drop!

  • Brad P

Ooh the Kings…is it that great Mclemore package *sarcasm*

Sac is a train wreck, Rondo would bolt from there so fast

    “Say it aint so, Woj”

I’m still in the camp that you dont trade your best player, especially when he doesn’t nessessarily want to leave. And ESPECIALLY when he’s frankly the main reason for watching the C’s these days, he’s still in his prime. When the cap goes up, we might actually get him somebody to play with. But that’s just my opinion. I watch a lot of the Kings, it’s not like they’d give up big Cuz, so that leaves Mcallum & MCLemore that I’d have interest in…..which means we’d get Ramon Sessions & Reggie Evans. I hope this is BS but with DA, you never know….

  • dontevertreadonme

the celts have known for a looong time that rondo isnt part of bostons future. they’re shopping him aggressively because he walks at the end of the year. regardless this teams a friggin mess

  • CFH

Ainge is also calling around to see how many of his grandchildren he’d have to give up for a first round pick…

Thanks for the link to the Woj article. I hadn’t realized that Danny was one of his particular un-favorites, though I do remember him being grossly slanted about KG.
