Throwback Thursday: T.A. smashes on New Jersey

It was January 13th, 2010. After a tough loss at home to the Hawks, the Celtics were 26-10 and headed to New Jersey to play the struggling Nets. Boston took out all of their frustration on Jersey, jumping out to a 71-34 lead at halftime, and finishing with a 111-87 drubbing of the Nets. Seven guys scored in double figures. One of them, Tony Allen, (11 pts) had a memorable dunk. About halfway through the 2nd Q, Paul Pierce finds a cutting T.A. who elevates for the vicious one-hand slam. Here’s the video, courtesy of TK.

I hope you guys do more of these throwback thursdays, miss TA and the rest of those teams from that era, had we kept TA we probably could have pushed pass Miami in 2012.

    • Timi

I am the one who uploaded the video and I am planning to upload more remarkable Celtics plays from the past. You can subscribe my channel (like KWAPT, thanks for that!) and/or follow me at twitter (@Timi_093) to stay updated :))

p.s. I am still wondering why DA let Tony go… Maybe he was thinking we can get the same with Avery Bradley? Still, too bad Tony is making those kinds of plays for Grizzlies now.

        Thanks Timi-love the vids.

TA wanted that extra year but Danny didn’t want a lot of contracts go past 2012 since he was hoping to have a shot of Dwight but Dwight opted in and TA ending up helping transforming the Grizzlies. Danny later admitted that he regrets letting TA go

as I recall, that 3rd year would have been at 2.5 mil, a fair deal even then. Still a solid defender who still can’t shoot…

    • KWAPT

      Glad you enjoy them Dave-thanks.

It is a shame that TA’s knee ever blew out. The guy used to have mad ups.

On another note, that dunk looks quite similar to what I’d call Uncle Jeff’s signature dunk. Love it. Miss you, TA.

Huh, that dunk was after surgery? Still seems like mad ups.

      • Curt Hays

Yes. Even then he didn’t jump like he used to.

    • Dave

He blew it out in the most pointless way too -___-, still glad that didn’t hold him back from continuing to compete at a high level

  • Jester00

Danny should have still inked him

  • Paul Yee

I went to that game! I remember at one point the nets were playing Courtney Lee, Devin Harris, Kris Humphries, and Brook Lopez and I thought, ‘sounds like they’re playing a bunch of hot girls.’

This mad me laugh me out loud.

      • Curt Hays

        lmfao, me too.

      • Paul Yee

the next year, the nets signed Sasha Vujacic.
